Oldest, largest independent bookstore in Western New York, The Book Corner has been a Niagara Falls institution since 1927. Established by Marie Fleming, The Book Corner was positioned in a corner of The Annex, a quaint shop located in the motor ramp on First Street in Niagara Falls. The store has moved and expanded over the years until now it encompasses three floors and 10,000 square feet on Main Street. In the continuing quest to serve customers from near and far, The Book Corner has launched this web page.

The Book Corner's history has been one of tradition and change, Parke "Pete" Morrow Jr. bought the store from Mrs. Fleming in 1962, and has since passed the ownership on to his son, Jeffrey. In 1970, the construction of a convention center forced the store to move from Third Street to 1909 Main Street. In 1982 after that building was sold, Pete, his family and six friends moved the entire store one block south, to 1801 Main Street, in 36 hours, closing Saturday evening and reopening for business Monday morning. Fifteen years later, Pete and Jeff had the opportunity to buy 1801 and despite the few retail businesses left on Main Street decided that the location was right for them. Since the purchase, the Morrows have taken on an ambitious renovation project, opening up half of the second floor as a community performance venue and massive used book room. A colorful, quirky and comfortable space, the renovation utilized help from Maine to Seattle, with furnishings donated by customers and artwork loaned by local artists.

As much as the physical space has changed, customers can always rely on the tradition of superior customer service and selection. With the luxury of an expansive space, The Book Corner is able to stock new and used books on a wide range of subjects, classics in every field as well as the latest bestsellers. The collection of literature about and from Niagara Falls and Western New York is especially extensive with some titles that are unavailable elsewhere.

Always willing to go the extra mile, Jeff and the rest of the staff research both in print and out-of-print titles, order from all publishers, no matter what size, and ship orders promptly. Often books can be delivered within the same week as ordered and requests for pricing and availability are always welcome. With a total of four decades in the business, Pete and Jeff possess the cumulative knowledge and love of challenges that no database can match. So do not be afraid to call or e-mail even if your information on a title is less than complete. They are also willing and able to suggest appropriate books for gifts or for your own use.

For those of you who are able to visit the store, they are open six days a week from 9 am to 5:30 pm and until 7 pm on Thursdays. Besides the pleasure of browsing in a relaxed atmosphere and supporting a truly independent bookstore, you will be able to meet the resident bookstore cats, Lolita, Connelly, and Jorge the latest in a long line of independent cats who call this unique store their home.
