Searl is a fourth-generation Hemet native; the family's original settlers arrived in the area about 1886. Searl has raised three children who in turn are raising their families in the Hemet area.
As co-owner of BJ Sporting Goods since 1991with his son, Garrett, Searl has been a longtime supporter of United Way. He holds an honored spot in the Hall of Fame for Hemet Youth Baseball, one of United Way's member agencies.
"He shows strong leadership and supports our community," said Connie Hall, vice president of operations for Central County United Way. "He will represent us at a variety of events."
Serving his third year on the Hemet City Council, Searl, 58, said he is proud to contribute even more of his time as mayor.
